VPNs and Remote Access

Originally, connecting distant business offices meant paying for the use of dedicated lines, and using an Intranet-based login. This was problematic, because the cost of such an endeavor became prohibitive as businesses expanded. With the advent of the internet, a new option became available, networking over the internet. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a network that uses the internet to connect offices in remote locations. The advantage of a VPN is that it adds an additional level of security over a traditional Intranet-based login. This network uses advanced security procedures and tunneling protocols to ensure that sensitive documents that are sent over the internet are kept private. Additionally, the network addresses and data are all encrypted for increased security.
By setting up a VPN, a business can allow for employees to login to the system through Remote Access. Various software programs (e.g. Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004) allow businesses to connect the main offices to remote locations or traveling personnel. These software programs can allow users with various operating systems (e.g. Windows Vista, XP, Server 2008, Server 2003, etc.) to login to the main server. The advantage of Remote Access is that this allows traveling employees to log onto their network accounts to access files without having to be in the office. Remote Access also allows the businesss documents to be protected through tunneling protocols that ensure that the correct user is given access to the information.

Decco employees have experience with developing VPNs for businesses. They can help your business decide what type of VPN would suit your needs. After that is decided, they can work with your business to make sure the designs are implemented properly. Additionally, they can show employees how Remote Access can allow them to access their personal files outside of the office. With the help of the technicians, your business can move into the mobile age of computing to allow for greater workplace flexibility.
